Julian Dashper will be based in Sydney from late March working as artist in residence at the Sydney College of Fine Arts. Dashper's solo show with Kaliman Gallery opens on 23 May 2008.
Kate Rohde will have a solo exhibition entitled Flourish at Tarrawarra Museum, Victoria from 20 April - 1 July, 2008. The exhibition is based upon the theme of the four seasons, and Rohde will transform the gallery space with her lavish and highly choreographed sculpture and garden installations.
David Griggs will commence his three month residency from December 2007 at the the Australian Council for the Arts studio in Barcelona, Spain. During the three month stay Griggs will be working on paintings for his 2008 exhibition at Kaliman Gallery.
Kate Rohde has been chosen to exhibit in 'Handle with Care' the 2008 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art, 29 February – 16 March 2008. Curated by Felicity Fenner, the Adelaide Biennial is a major survey of contemporary art practice in Australia. Featuring recent work by selected Australian artists, the exhibition aims to consider the fragile nature of our relationships with the cultural and natural environments in which we live.
Recent work by Nadine Christensen will feature in the upcoming group exhibition An answer for the parts only itinerant sighs can fathom at Victoria Park Gallery, Melbourne. The show is curated by Storm Gold and opens 28 November 2007.

Stephen Birch (1961-2007)
It is with great sorrow that Kaliman Gallery announces that Stephen Birch passed away early Sunday morning 2 September following a prolonged private battle with cancer. A unique artist with a singular vision, Stephen created a challenging, dramatic world of misrecognition and ambiguity, and his constructed objects and installations were charged with a sense of comedy and tragedy. Stephen held a solo show 'Accumulations/Accretions' here at Kaliman Gallery in late 2006 and was the subject of a major survey exhibition on Level 4 at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney in March - May 2007. A funeral service will be held on Thursday 6 September at 11am at Macquarie Park Cemetery and Crematorium Corner Delhi and Plassey Roads, Macquarie Park NSW. A memorial event will be held at the Museum of Contemporary Art to celebrate Stephen's life and achievements, which will be announced in due course.
Adam Cullen will be featured this weekend as part of the Sunday Arts Program, ABC TV. Watch ABC TV on Sunday 12 August at 5pm.
Sally Smart will be exhibiting a selection of works from ‘The Exquisite Pirate’ at Ter Camer-Meert Contemporary, Belgium, 16 November – 22 December 2007. Sally will also have work included in the group exhibition ‘Float’ at the Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery, Booragul, 14 December 2007 – 3 February 2008. ‘Float’ will explore the enduring role of the boat in its various forms within contemporary Australian art practice.

Julian Dashper is having a solo show at the Christchurch Art Gallery, New Zealand titled 'To the Unknown New Zealander', from 10 August - 14 October 2007.
The Kingpins have been included in the exhibition ‘Playback’ at ARC, the contemporary section of the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, 19 October 2007 - 6 January 2008. 'Playback' is a project focusing on incursions of visual artists in the realm of music, and will gather both music videos directed by visual artists and produced for a label, as well as works influenced by music videos. 'Playback' combines approximatively fifty videos by emerging and established artists realised between the beginning of the 1980's and today, and will include works by Rodney Graham, Olaf Breuning, Wilhelm Sasnal, Paul McCarthy, Wolfgang Tillmans, Doug Aitken, Tony Oursler/Sonic Youth, Philippe Parreno and others.
Kate Rohde will be showing in the group exhibition ‘Cultural Trackers’ at 24hr Art: Northern Territory Centre for Contemporary Art, Darwin, 3 August – 8 September 2007. The exhibition follows a two-week camp that Kate and four other interstate artists were invited to attend in collaboration with Injak Arts and Crafts near Gunbalanya in Western Arnhem Land.

David Griggs's solo show 'Blood on the Streets 2006/2007' will open at Artspace, Sydney on 16 March 2007. The exhibition of painting and installation responds to recent experiences in the Philippines, particularly in San Fernando last year during the Holy Cross Crucifixion: Lenten Rites.

We are pleased to announce that Stephen Birch has joined the gallery. Stephen had a solo exhibition at Kaliman Gallery in July this year, and has a forthcoming solo show at Macquarie University Art Gallery, 13 October - 24 November 2006. Titled 'Stephen Birch: No man's land', this new installation uses a video and sculptural presence to draw a connection between the physiological and the psychological. In March 2007, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney will also host a survey exhibition of Stephen Birch's work.
David Rosetzky has been curated into the group show 'Raised by Wolves' at the Art Gallery of Western Australia, 9 February - 17 June 2007. The exhibition is part of the Perth Festival and will comprise of an extensive body of Rosetzky's work including 'Justine', 'Weekender' and 'Commune'.

Curated by Kate Just and Kate Stones, the exhibition showcases work by
Australian artists who work primarily in large-scale installation and
sculpture. The line-up of artists also includes Mikala Dwyer (NSW), Natasha
Johns Messenger (VIC), Kate Just (VIC), Horst Kiechle (NSW), Geoff Robinson
(VIC), Kate Stones (VIC) and Josh Webb (WA).
Julian
Dashper is having a survey show 'Dashper again and again: the multiple
works of Julian Dashper 1986 - 2006' at the Aratoi
- Wairarapa Museum of Art and History, 28 April - 14 June 2006. Curated
by Mark Kirby, the exhibition surveys Dashper's artwork in multiple form
over the past two decades. It is comprised of over 50 individual works
including Dashper's paintings, ceramics, drumheads and wristwatches. Julian
Dashper and Mark Kirby will present a lecture about the exhibition at
the museum on Friday 28 April at 5.30pm.
Jonathan
Nichols will exhibit alongside Moya McKenna and Michael Zavros in
the exhibition 'New Objectivity' at the Karen Woodbury Gallery, Melbourne.
The show will run from late March to April 2006 and will be accompanied
by a catalogue with
an essay by Rex Butler.
David Rosetzky
is showing in the group exhibition 'Crowds/Conversations/Confessions'
at the Art
Gallery of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. The exhibition runs from March
11 - June 10 and brings together the work of seven international artists
who explore the dynamics of human interaction, articulated by the use
of technology.
Andrew Browne
is currently showing in 'Recent Acquisitions: Photographs from the MGA
Collection' at the Monash Gallery of Art until the end of March 2006.
His work is a full suite of photographs that were recently acquired by
the gallery.
Julian Dashper's first solo exhibition in New York will be held
at Esso Gallery from 10 March
- 15 April 2006. He will be presenting two works; 'Future Call' 1994-2006
and 'Untitled (C.V)' 1979-2006.
David Griggs will be showing in the exhibition 'Winners are Grinners'
at The Meat Market, Melbourne, curated by Hannah Matthews. The exhibition
runs from 18 March - April 2, 2006, as part of the Next
Wave Festival.
Kate Rohde has been announced as a Finalist in the Helen
Lempriere National Sculpture Award. Her work, 'Vicious Precious' will
be on show at Werribee Park in Victoria from 1 March - 8 May, 2006. Kate
is also having a solo exhibition at the Latrobe Regional Gallery in Morwell
from 4 June - July 11, 2006. Kate has been invited to participate in a
residency that brings together six interstate contemporary artists and
six Indigenous artists in the Northern Territory. In May 2006, they will
give artist talks at 24HR Art in Darwin, followed by a two-week artist
camp in Gunbalanya (Oenpelli) in Western Arnhem Land.
David
Rosetzky is included in The Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art 2006:
21st Century Modern, 4 March - 7 May 2006 at the Art
Gallery of South Australia.
Jon
Cattapan's
work is to be the subject of a major survey at the Ian
Potter Museum of Art, University of Melbourne in May, 2006. The exhibition
is to be curated by one of Australia's foremost critics and Director of
the Museum, Dr. Christopher McAuliffe. 'Jon Cattapan - The Drowned World'
is the first comprehensive survey of Jon's work and will chart the artist's
many-faceted urban oeuvre from 1980 to the present. A feature of the exhibition
will be a specifically re-created and installed 'City Submerged' suite
and an unveiling of new works made as part of the artist's current 'Possible
Histories' suite. The exhibition will be accompanied by an illustrated
catalogue. The exhibition will be followed in early 2007 with the publication
of a major, fully illustrated monograph on Cattapan's work also written
by Dr. Christopher McAuliffe.

Harris is
holding a major survey exhibition at The
Ian Potter Museum of Art, Melbourne in early 2006. 'Just a Feeling:

The
Kingpins have been included in the 2006
Liverpool Biennial that will be held from September 16 - November
26. The Kingpins have also been included in the exhibition 'High Tide:
New Currents in Art from Australia and New Zealand' which will tour to
Poland and Lithuania. The show will open at the Zacheta
National Gallery of Art in Warsaw on February 13 and at the Contemporary
Art Centre in Vilnius on June 2, where they will perform at the opening.
The Kingpins will also perform at the opening of the Adelaide
Arts Festival on March 5, 2006, and recently performed at the Palais
de Tokyo in Paris on January 20 as part of the performance program
for the exhibition 'Notré Histoir'. The Kingpins will hold a solo
show at Gertrude Conteporary Art
Spaces, Melbourne in April, 2006.
Julian Dashpers 25 year American touring retrospective will
open to the public on the 13th January at the prestigious Sheldon
Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska. Regarded as a Philip Johnson architectural
masterpiece, Dashpers show of 40 + works is housed over two floors
of the museum. This is the first ever career retrospective of a resident
New Zealand artist in America. Exhibition co- curators Christopher Cook
(curator, Sioux City Art Center, Iowa) and Dr David Raskin (Associate
Professor, School of The Art Institute of Chicago) will deliver papers
on Dashpers work at the forum this Friday, followed by a lecture
by Sheldon curator Dr Daniel. A Siedell on Sunday 15th. Following its
exhibition at the Sheldon, the show will reopen at the Ulrich Museum of
Art in Wichita, Kansas in August 2006. The 90 page fully illustrated catalog
being launched this week will be available at Kaliman Galleryin March.
Dashpers work will also open in a solo show in New York on the 26th
January at Esso Gallery and
in a group show, entitled `Minimalisms, opening the same night in
New York, at Gallery W52.
Sally
Smart will be holding her first solo exhibition in New York in early
2006. 'Sally Smart: The Exquisite Pirate', at Postmasters
Gallery, 459 W 19 Street New York, NY 10011, from 28 January - 25
February 2006.
Sean Meilak has been awarded the Australia
